Topaz Releases GemTrust™ Electronic Notary Journal Software

Simi Valley, CA - September 1, 2004 - To improve and expedite high-value business and real estate signings requiring notarization, Topaz Systems, Inc. introduces GemTrust™ electronic notary journal software. GemTrust is a fully customizable software application program designed to mimic the time-tested process of recording notary information in a bound paper book or register. Source code and tools are included for developers and integrators looking to automate all of the handwritten signature, security, and encryption aspects of notary journal applications, leaving each business free to add notary certificates, digital signatures, web services, and otherwise differentiate their notary products and services. This software is bundled at no fee for use with Topaz signature capture pads.

Designed to mimic the same methods and processes used with a traditional paper-bound journal, GemTrust software uses sophisticated document and data-based encryption features to prevent forgers from altering data within a single entry as well as the overall aggregate contents of the register in such a way that tampering is easily detected. Notaries are able to generate instant one-page reports for each entry which can be printed and given to clients as a receipt or submitted electronically to appropriate governing authorities as needed. For secure backup, archiving, and reporting purposes, each GemTrust journal record can be exported as a locked database archive, which is not able to accept additional entries or alter their sequence without leaving evidence of tampering.

Through the GemTrust journal system, Topaz provides an out-of-the box and customizable system to bind and store signatures to the complete notary record in a form that is secure and capable of authentication. All of the tools available using a notary journal are available, including the ability to record document information, comments, whether the notarization was an oath or acknowledgment, or if the signer was identified by personal knowledge or by a credible witness.

"The GemTrust journal example, source code, and software tools provide a solution for both individual notaries and developers of electronic notary systems," says Anthony Zank, President of Topaz Systems, Inc. "This software enables advanced handwritten signature management and will save our customers thousands of hours of development time in the creation and deployment of complete electronic notary systems."
